Refund and Returns Policy

Bottom line - Just contact me. I want you to feel good about your purchase. Let's get it right. Something you love and that will last a lifetime.

Colorado Crown Co. is a small, handmade hat business. Every hat is shaped, trimmed, finished, and handled with care by Jenni. If something is not right, please contact me first so we can talk through it.

Email: ColoradoCrownCo@gmail.com

Please include your order number, the name used on the order, a short description of the issue, and clear photos if the concern involves damage, fit, color, shape, or materials.

My goal is simple: I want you to have something you love, use, and keep for years.

Ready-to-Ship Hat Returns

Ready-to-ship hats and eligible non-custom items may be returned within 30 days of purchase or delivery, depending on the order details.

To be eligible for a return, the item must be:

  • Unused
  • Unworn
  • Clean and free of odors, makeup, sweat, pet hair, smoke, stains, or damage
  • In the same condition you received it
  • Returned with the original packaging when possible
  • Accompanied by a receipt, order confirmation, or proof of purchase

Returns must be approved before shipping the item back. Please do not send a hat back without contacting Colorado Crown Co. first.

Items That Cannot Be Returned

Some items are final sale and cannot be returned or refunded unless Colorado Crown Co. made a clear error or the item arrived damaged.

Non-returnable items include:

  • Custom hats
  • Made-to-order hats
  • Hats altered, reshaped, stretched, trimmed, burned, branded, beaded, distressed, or personalized at the customer’s request
  • Gift cards
  • Downloadable or digital products
  • Sale, clearance, discounted, or promotional items
  • Worn or used hats
  • Items damaged by misuse, moisture, heat, crushing, improper storage, pets, smoke, makeup, sweat, or normal wear

Custom Hat Orders

Custom hats are different from regular retail purchases.

A custom Colorado Crown Co. hat can take hours, days, and sometimes weeks of planning, shaping, drying, sanding, trimming, finishing, and detail work. Some projects may require Jenni to create or modify a wood mold, crown block, brim block, flange, or tool for the client’s requested shape.

Because of that, custom hats are final sale. However, we do want you to love your purchase, so if something is not quite right, please let us know how we can fix it.

Custom hat payments, deposits, design fees, material fees, custom block fees, and labor fees are non-refundable once work has started, materials have been ordered, or a custom mold, block, or pattern has been created.

Custom Hat Deposits and Payments

For custom orders, Colorado Crown Co. may require a deposit before work begins.

A deposit reserves time on Jenni’s work schedule and may be used to purchase materials, source trims, prepare the hat body, create or modify blocks, or begin design work. Once that process has started, the deposit is not refundable.

Final payment is due before the finished hat is shipped, delivered, or picked up unless another written agreement has been made.

Design Approval and Creative Process

Custom hats are a collaboration.

Jenni will listen to your ideas, measurements, preferences, inspiration photos, colors, shape requests, trim choices, and style direction. She will use her experience as a designer and maker to create a hat that fits the spirit of what you asked for.

That said, a handmade hat is not a factory product. It will not be machine-perfect, and it is not meant to be.

By placing a custom order, you understand that Jenni has creative discretion in the final shaping, finishing, trim placement, and overall artistic judgment of the piece.

Once a design direction, material, color, shape, trim, or custom detail has been approved, major changes may require additional time and additional fees.

Handmade Variation Is Not a Defect

Every Colorado Crown Co. hat is made by hand.

The molds and hat blocks used in the process may be handmade by Jenni, custom-shaped for a client, or sourced from museums, farms, auctions, vintage sellers, and older collections. Some tools and blocks may date back many decades, including pieces from the early 1900s.

That history is part of the work.

Small variations are normal and expected in a handmade hat. These may include slight differences in:

  • Color
  • Felt tone
  • Texture
  • Grain
  • Stiffness
  • Brim shape
  • Crown shape
  • Ribbon placement
  • Stitching
  • Trim position
  • Distressing
  • Burn marks
  • Beadwork
  • Finish
  • Size or fit feel

These variations are not considered defects.

They are part of owning a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece.

Natural Material Variation

Colorado Crown Co. uses high-quality materials commonly used for western hats, including rabbit, coypu, beaver, and beaver blends.

These are natural materials. Because they come from animal hide and fur felt, no two hat bodies are exactly alike. Slight differences in color, density, nap, texture, surface feel, and how the felt responds to steam, shaping, and finishing are normal.

Photos can also look different depending on lighting, screen settings, camera exposure, and the environment where the hat is photographed.

A slight color or texture difference from a photo, sample, or inspiration image is not considered a defect.

Fit, Sizing, and Measurements

For custom hats, the customer is responsible for providing accurate measurements.

Colorado Crown Co. may provide measuring instructions, but the final measurement supplied by the customer is the measurement used to create the hat unless an in-person fitting is completed.

If a custom hat does not fit because the customer supplied an incorrect measurement, the hat is not eligible for a refund.

Jenni may be able to adjust, stretch, pad, or fine-tune the fit depending on the hat, material, and issue. Some adjustments may require an additional fee, and shipping costs are the customer’s responsibility unless the issue was caused by Colorado Crown Co.

Custom Blocks, Molds, and Tools

If a custom wood mold, crown block, brim block, flange, pattern, or tool is created or modified for a custom order, that work is part of Colorado Crown Co.’s internal making process unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Payment for a custom hat does not automatically include ownership of the mold, block, tool, pattern, or design process used to create it.

Colorado Crown Co. retains ownership of all shop tools, molds, blocks, patterns, templates, notes, sketches, and process materials unless a separate written agreement says otherwise.

Cancellations for Custom Orders

Custom orders may be cancelled and refunded fully only if work has not started and materials have not been ordered.

Once work has started, materials have been purchased, or a custom mold, block, pattern, or hat body has been prepared, the order cannot be cancelled for a full refund.

If a customer cancels after work has started, Colorado Crown Co. may retain all or part of the payment to cover time, materials, design work, sourcing, custom block work, transaction fees, and other costs already incurred.

Abandoned Custom Orders

Colorado Crown Co. will make reasonable attempts to contact the customer if an order requires approval, payment, pickup, shipping confirmation, or additional information.

If a customer does not respond for 60 days or more, the order may be considered abandoned.

Abandoned custom orders are not eligible for refund. Colorado Crown Co. may choose how to handle the unfinished or finished item after that point.

Damaged or Defective Items

Please inspect your order as soon as it arrives.

If your item arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, contact Colorado Crown Co. within 7 days of delivery.

Email: ColoradoCrownCo@gmail.com

Please include:

  • Your order number
  • Clear photos of the packaging
  • Clear photos of the hat or item
  • A description of the issue

If the issue was caused by Colorado Crown Co. or by shipping damage, I will work with you on the next step. Depending on the situation, that may include a repair, replacement, exchange, store credit, partial refund, shipping claim, or refund.

Exchanges

Exchanges are handled case by case.

Ready-to-ship items may be exchanged if the item is unused, approved for return, and returned in acceptable condition.

Custom hats are not eligible for exchange unless Colorado Crown Co. made a clear error or the item arrived damaged.

Because many Colorado Crown Co. hats are one-of-a-kind, an exact replacement may not be available.

Refunds

Once your approved return is received and inspected, Colorado Crown Co. will notify you by email.

If the return is approved, the refund will be processed to the original payment method.

Please allow time for your bank, credit card company, payment processor, or payment platform to post the refund. Processing times vary.

Original shipping costs are non-refundable unless the return is due to a Colorado Crown Co. error or approved shipping damage claim.

Partial Refunds

Partial refunds may be granted at Colorado Crown Co.’s discretion.

A partial refund may apply if:

  • The item shows signs of use
  • The item is not returned in its original condition
  • Packaging is missing or damaged
  • The item is returned late
  • The item has minor damage not caused by Colorado Crown Co.
  • Repairs, cleaning, reshaping, or restoration are needed before resale
  • Transaction, shipping, material, or labor costs have already been incurred

Late or Missing Refunds

If you have been approved for a refund but have not received it yet, please check your bank account again first.

Then contact your credit card company or payment provider. It can take time before a refund is officially posted.

Next, contact your bank. Processing delays are common.

If you have done all of this and still have not received your refund, contact Colorado Crown Co. at ColoradoCrownCo@gmail.com.

Sale Items

Sale items, discounted items, promotional items, sample pieces, clearance items, and marked-down hats are final sale.

They cannot be returned or refunded unless they arrive damaged or Colorado Crown Co. made a clear error with the order.

Gifts

If the item was marked as a gift at purchase and shipped directly to the recipient, an approved return may be issued as store credit or a gift credit.

If the item was not marked as a gift, or the gift giver had the order shipped to themselves before giving it to someone else, any approved refund will be issued to the original purchaser and original payment method.

Shipping Returns

Please contact Colorado Crown Co. before mailing anything back.

Returns sent without approval may be refused or may not qualify for a refund.

Once your return is approved, return shipping instructions will be provided by email.

Customers are responsible for return shipping costs unless the return is due to a Colorado Crown Co. error or approved shipping damage claim.

Shipping costs are non-refundable. If a refund is approved, return shipping costs, original shipping costs, insurance costs, and packaging costs may be deducted from the refund where applicable.

For higher-value items, please use a trackable shipping service and purchase shipping insurance. Colorado Crown Co. is not responsible for return packages that are lost, stolen, delayed, damaged, or delivered to the wrong address.

Repairs and Adjustments

Handmade hats can often be adjusted, cleaned, reshaped, refreshed, or repaired.

If your hat needs help, please contact me. I would rather you ask than let a hat sit unworn.

Repair and adjustment options depend on the hat, material, damage, age, structure, and prior wear.

Repair, reshaping, cleaning, restoration, and adjustment services may require additional fees and shipping costs.

Wear, Care, and Long-Term Use

A handmade hat is wearable art, but it still needs care.

Colorado Crown Co. is not responsible for damage caused by:

  • Rain, snow, heavy moisture, or improper drying
  • Heat exposure
  • Being crushed, folded, sat on, packed tightly, or stored incorrectly
  • Sweat, makeup, oils, perfume, smoke, pets, or stains
  • Brushing, cleaning, steaming, or reshaping by someone else
  • Normal wear over time
  • Accidents or misuse

If you are unsure how to care for your hat, contact me before trying to fix it yourself.
